Can you get dengue more than once? The answer might surprise you.

It’s a common misconception that once you've had dengue, you’re immune for life. The truth is, you can get dengue more than once, and the reason lies in the nature of the virus itself. 

Dengue isn’t caused by just one virus, but by four distinct serotypes: DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4. If you've been infected with one, your body builds immunity to that specific type, but not the others. That means you can still contract dengue up to three more times, each time from a different serotype.
